Lest there be any doubt of psychiatry’s intention to call every mental and emotional problem a disease for the purpose of justifying one-dimensional drug treatment, see page 32 [CPN 5/2000], where, ADHD authority, Joseph Biederman speaks of childhood depression and all of it’s sub-types. He states: "I propose that early-onset depression shares phenotypic features with the late-onset disorder but is no the same disease." Other statements attributed to him:

Childhood-onset mood disorders appear to be highly familial.

The earlier depression develops, the more chronic it is likely to be. [as if a disease with a prognosis]

Similarly, early onset correlates with a higher risk of substance abuse, agoraphobia, and social phobia, he said at the meeting, also sponsored by the South Florida Psychiatric Society.

"The children are extraordinarily difficult to live with," he said. [fb—imagine the stigma being placed on the child. Imagine this pandering to struggling parents, struggling needlessly, he would tell them if only they understood and believed in the disease/chemical imbalance/chemical balancer (pill) model.
