WHEN CHILD AN ANGEL AT HOME, DEVIL AT SCHOOL IT IS NOT A DISEASE.
Dear Dr. Baughman,
I am the mother of a HIGHLY active [Fred A. Baughman Jr., MD:
never, by itself a
disease=abnormality, a parental challenge]
four-year-old boy.
Brief background: he stood up at six months, was climbing
everything in sight at seven months and walked at nine months.
While he is an angel at his private pre-school, he is wild at
home, and elsewhere [Fred A. Baughman Jr., MD:
this difference suggests it is
something...more likely some persons in the home]
. I'm
at my rope's end. Spanking, time-outs, talks, toy time-outs*,
withholding of privileges...I've tried them all. (*Toy time-outs
have had some effect.)
If I cannot afford to put him in private kindergarten with a
half-day program, I will be forced to put him in a full-day, public
kindergarten. He does alright at his pre-school [Fred A. Baughman Jr., MD:
I am struck by this, you should be too. Look for books by David B
Stein, PhD on ADHD behaviors, it is not a disease/abnormality in
the child...yours or any other]
but,
This school forces parents to medicate their kids at the slightest
misbehavior, such as talking too much (mine talks incessantly), and
refusing to stay seated (mine stays still only if he is absorbed
in a cartoon).
There is a high teacher/student ratio, so, the only solution the
school offers is medication [Fred A. Baughman Jr., MD:
With no disease, there is
no justification to medicate, don't do it!]
. The vast
majority of the parents are under-educated, and poor, and have
neither the motivation nor the resources to fight back.
Now, my point (yes, I have one!): how can I work with my son to
help him learn self-control? If he does have ADD/ADHD, what
resources can I find to help him, such as dietary restrictions?
[Fred A. Baughman Jr., MD:
Again, the representation of ADHD as a disease/abnormality for which
to drug the child is a total, 100% fraud, and is this for the
simple reason that their is no examination or test that
reveals a brain or body abnormality.]
I'll continue to research the sites I've found which lead me to you
but, I would appreciate any pointers you could provide. I care
very deeply for my son.
I appreciate any assistance you can provide me, and my son.
Sincerely,
*****
