MORE ON TEACHERS AS THE PRIMARY DIAGNOSTICIAN IN ADHD (5/14/00)

In the Forum, of Fargo-Moorhead, N.D.: "Many affected by ADHD."

According to WebMD, the disorder causes children and adult to be inattentive, hyperactive and/or impulsive. At West Fargo Middle School, Assistant Principal Rob Kaspari estimate 10-15 percent have varying degrees of it. Kaspari says most children with ADHD are diagnosed long before they get to middle school. However, when school staff notice symptoms of the disorder, they approach the child’s parents and encourage them to visit a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. The number of school-based mental health clinics has increased from 200 in 1990 to 1,157 in 1998.

[FB: it cannot be argued that teachers are not making the diagnosis or urging, coercing, and forcing medical consultation, a medical function in and of itself.]
